Principal's Message

August 12, 2019

To the Amazing Schumacher Family,

Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year.  I hope that you have had a wonderful summer with your child.  I am very excited and committed to making your child feel valued, safe, and a part of our school community.  We are dedicated to creating an environment in which all students can excel emotionally, socially, and academically.

Thank you in advance for adhering to all safety expectations. To maintain a safe environment all exterior doors will be locked at 8:30 a.m.  All guests/visitors/parents are required to enter through door (# 1) and report to the main office.  If you have a scheduled conference/appointment with a staff member you will receive a sticker or an office pass to visit a classroom.  You are required to sign in and sign out during your visit. Thank you for your understanding in adhering to this safety policy.

The first day of school for students in grades 1- 5 is August 29, 2019.  Kindergarten students will begin school on September 3, 2019. Our school day begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. Thank you for helping your child to come to school daily and on time. Daily attendance is critical for your child’s success.  Our staff loves to see your child each day and celebrate his or her good attendance and academic growth. The State of Ohio requires that all schools carefully monitor student attendance and tardies. Ms. Gleaves, our family liaison, or your child’s homeroom teacher will contact you if your child is absent or tardy 3 days within a grading period.  Parents/guardians of students whose attendance and tardies exceeds 5 per grading period will be scheduled for a conference to develop a student success plan with Ms Smith, Assistant Principal. Should your child becomes ill, please contact the school office at (330) 761-7934 by 8:15 a.m.

Breakfast and Lunch:

We happily serve students breakfast and lunch each day at no cost. Breakfast is served starting at 7:50 a.m until 8:10 a.m.  Students may enter through door ( #1) for breakfast each day.  Breakfast is over at 8:30.   If your child has food allergies, please contact Ms. Palmer, school health aid, at (330)-761-7934. You may also pack your child’s lunch if you do not wish a school lunch.

Emergency cards:

Please return all emergency contact information by the second week of school. Per the Akron Board of Education ***students will be released to guardians, and you will be required to present your identification. If you wish for another adult to pick up your child, please send in a letter and follow up with a telephone call to the school office indicating who has been authorized to pick up your child. All adults picking up your child must provide a valid picture identification.  Please make sure that all emergency contact  information is updated throughout the school year. Thank you for your support.

Our school day ends at 2:30 p.m.  Your child looks forward to seeing you at the end of the school day.  The secretarial staff are not responsible to supervise your child after school.  Please be prompt each day.

Please share your dismissal plans with your child prior to their school day.  If you are picking your child up from school, please arrive to school by 2:30 p.m. Students who are walking must leave the school grounds, once they are dismissed at 2:30 p.m.

Students receiving bus transportation should have/will receive stop information in the mail from our transportation department.  Any transportation questions should be directed to (330) 761-1390.
